2014 Week 1 Happy New Year!

Welcome back to Resin Weekly! Its another year and I'm going to try my hardest to keep this blog going I may change it up a bit and do only 1 blog a month as I have many projects going on this year. Once again I'll be doing many of the Project Runway Challenges on Den of Angels. Some other projects that I'll be starting is a photo a day journal on my Facebook, occasionally it may incorporate some of my dolls so they may be posted her. There is also a 52 Week Toy/Doll Photo Challenge where we're given a theme to take a photo of our dolls or other toys. I'll mainly be using my BJDs so may also add those here in this blog.

Some other great things that will be going on that I may be busy with is creating clothing to finally place up on my Etsy site for sale. Along with all these new and exciting plans I'll still be working on clothing, faceups and photo stories for my existing dolls and future dolls. The photo stories I'm going to try to start from the beginning and upload them either her on my blog or find another site to add them for those that are  not on Den of Angels to read my dolls stories.

A few things that I've already done this year besides the things that I mentioned I've also caught up on my videos on my you tube channel www.youtube.com/mskittyblue. BJD Addicts responses, 2013 doll overview of my entire collection at the end of the year and some of my aspirations for 2014, please feel free to go to the link and watch and comment. Also I'll be downsizing a few of my dolls to make room for new ones, a few will be reshelled into different characters or a new look.

Well that is about all I can think of at the moment for the new year I'll leave you with this photo which is from the 52 Week project that I mentioned the first week was Self-Potrait and seeing that Kitiblu is my main character of my photo stories and pretty much my first BJD I decided to use her as a model. Oh and I forgot to mention I purchased a new camera a DSLR Canon T3i so I'm really excited to start learning how to take better pictures of my resin crew.

Catch up Week 7 and End to 2013 Holiday Fun

As 2013 came to an end I received my last doll of the year a Dollmore Lusion who I named Oakley. Who is appx 80cm and is about the size of a toddler but really slim so I would have to go about making clothes for her myself.

Here is a photo of my wonderful girl when she first arrived:

And here are a few outfits that I created for her throughout December:
Her very first outfit I created was a furry fox set, argyle stockings, white shirt, tan skirt and scarf.

Next was a pair of brown shorts that I did as just a mock up to make sure the pants pattern I made would fit.

A set of comfy pjs so that she could be ready for Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. I took apart a old set of big girls size 14 pants and t shirt. The pink is new fabric an I added the applique to the front that was part of the tshirt. The pants to the set I used for both her pj pants and the sleeves of her top.

And finally her fabulous Holiday dress that I altered from a large girls dress, added a ribbon sash and made a matching outfir for her bunny friend. She wore this to the Holiday Doll Meet I held at my home as well as on Christmas Day.

And one last photo before the New Year:
A sweater dress made from an old sweater and some brown leggings.

I'd like to thank everyone for viewing my blog during the 2013 year...though it seems my blog doesn't get alot of traffic or comments it was nice to create this blog as a way to keep creating. The end of the year was very stressful with my 8yr old dog having health problems and then having to say goodbye to him in the middle of October. It was hard to come back to this blog, but I am back. I hope everyone will continue to tune in for all the creative fun of 2014.

Happy New Year!

Catch up Week 6 Project Runway Day of the Dead

So Back in November 2013 I entered yet another Project Runway Challenge Game 20. This post was to be uploaded onto Resin Weekly at the end of November but due to holidays and such I neglected my blog here so this is yet another catch up until I get back on track into 2014 projects.

CHALLENGE:
CHALL LIMA, Peru (AP) — With the magical sound of wooden flutes, the scent of incense, and the warm Andean sun making shadow patterns across the rolling hills, this event has all the hallmarks of a happy, festive occasion. Families spread out picnics; strolling musicians and vendors sell cotton candy, toys, flowers and food.

But this celebration is taking place in a cemetery, El Cemeterio de Nueva Esperanza, one of the largest cemeteries in the world. And the event is the Day of the Dead, celebrated throughout Latin America on Nov. 1, a day after American kids go trick-or-treating for Halloween.

It’s a day when families from across Peru congregate in the gigantic graveyard in Lima to connect with their ancestors, and many even spend the night here. While Day of the Dead is most famously observed in Mexico, it's also an important holiday in Peru and neighboring Bolivia, where traditions honoring the dead predate Catholicism. The Incas honored their ancestors by displaying their mummies in a prominent place and sharing a meal and liquor with them. A shaman would be called upon to communicate with them and bring blessings from the relatives back to the living. The observance at the cemetery includes a procession honoring Santa Muerte, a female folk saint, originating in Mexico, the saint of death. A grim reaper-like skeletal figure dressed in a long robe, she is associated with healing, protection and the afterlife, and represents the mummies once honored by native people.

Taking inspiration from the above description, create a costume that embodies the spirit of this celebration.

My model of chose this time was my Resinsoul Mei Ilearra here is her photo before transforming her into a lady in the Day of the Dead parade.

I wanted to try my best at using fabrics that I had within my sewing room so I chose a few complimentary fabrics with reds and blacks.

My interpretation of the Day of the Dead...I went more for a kinda mourning look. Outfit consists of red floral off shoulder bodice and matching overskirt with black lace, red ribbon detail and a black sash belt with a red flower. Red front ruffled underskirt, black lace gloves, matching lace umbrella and of course skull mask with red and black flowers with red rhinestones.

Voting by the admins on the forum was held shortly after the end of the challenge on the first week of December and I was voted for 1st place. This was a really fabulous challenge and really helped me to keep my creativity moving in the right direction. I look forward to the challenges that will take place in the new year in 2014.

Catch up Weeks: 5 Another DoA Anniversary Contest - Photostories

Edited and was originally to post on my blog on 12/02/13

In this DoA anniversary contest the third one I entered was to interpret the concept "nine lives" into a 12 image photostory. Points would be given in several categories: concept of theme, posing of dolls, picture quality, coherence of story.

Taken from a work in progress back story on a few of my character dolls I created this photostory. The models used were Dhorian (resinsoul Gang) and Keiyoko (resinsoul Xue). Keiyoko is not the original character that this story is based but since I don't yet have the doll that this storyline is based on I had to use a stand in for this purpose..lol.

Catch up Weeks 4 DoA Anniversary Muslin Project

Edited was oringinally suppose to post on my blog on 12/02/13

Ok so back on Week 34 in August I posted that I was entering a few of the DoA (Den of Angels) Anniversary Contests. Since it is long past I'm finally able to post up photos of my creation. I didn't place in the contest but I'm pretty happy with my results and hope to someday at some point make this into a different fabric.

Anyway the basics of the challenge in a nutshell (don't want to copy and paste as I don't want to get in trouble from DoA for not getting permission to copy) is we had to make a formal outfit but out of muslin fabric as the challenge was to show our creation and design without excess details to hide any flaws. Since I choose Keiyoko my Resinsoul Xue for this project I had to work with only 2/3yd that was only 39" or less wide...normally this fabric can come in a width of 60" but since the participants are international most traditional width of this type of fabric is only 39" or less. Anyway on to the model and details.

Again like I stated my model for this project is my wonderful mini me Keiyoko:

Detail Front Neckline:
Ruffled Halter Neckline and Horizontal Pleated Sash..

Detail Front Skirt:
The overskirt with ruffled flounce hemline...

As you can see in one of the photos I ran short on time and was not able to complete her leg coverings. I can look at this and see some improvements that could be made but I'm pretty proud of the outcome especially having mostly draped the bodice part and figuring out the ruffled details. It was a challenge that I was very happy to have completed and it was fun to enter. Next year I will have to give myself much more time..lol.

Catch up Weeks 3 (Part 2)

Edited on 12/02/13 and was originally scheduled to post on my blog at that time.

As promised this is part 2, the continuation of the last blog where I traded services with DoA friend Mindy. She did some fabulous faceups on a few of my dolls in exchange I was to make her boy some cool duds.

The model I had to work with was the Mirodoll 68cm boy body which was hybrided with Resinsoul Dong head. His name is Gunner. I asked permission from Mindy Mae Freeman aka Raesha to post photos of her doll.

The first outfit:
Sexy Gunner showing off his new duds. I created a black long sleeve t-shirt with a slight v neck to show off his muscles and a pair of grey skinny leg pants.

The second outfit:

Modeled on my Mirodoll boy is the 2nd outfit that I made for Gunner a pair of black denim jeans and a beige raglan t-shirt.

I'm really quite pleased with how they both turned out. It was great practice for creating some great fashions that will eventually end up in my Etsy shop.

Catch Up Weeks 2

Edited on 12/02/13 was to be oringinally posted at that time.

Even in between some of the chaos that was life for the past few months, in my absence there were a few doll projects that I had accomplished. A fellow DoA member and Resinsoul lover Mindy was nice enough to do faceups on a few of my dolls in exchange I made her new boy some clothing. So this will be in a 2 part blog. First since she completed the faceups I'll discuss a little about what she did and who I sent out to her.

The first victim...er uh volunteer was Vincent Doyle Forrester - Bobobie Apollo in light tan.

Before:
The issues I had with the faceup the previous owner did was that the eyebrows were very sketchy and I have a big pet peeve with dark colored highlighting in the corner of the lips on dolls. Its just not my thing makes me think he was just eating oreo cookies or dirt...lol. I'd love to post some of my inspiration photos that I sent to her but they are not of my dolls and since I don't know the owner don't want to post someone elses photos. Pretty much I wanted something more masculine but yet not "too" masculine, but in pretty natural tones.

After:

Next up is everyone's favorite girl Audryme, my Bobobie/resinsoul hybrid steampunk gal.

Before:
Audryme has a company faceup on with some very slight freckles that were added by the previous owner. I wanted to keep a natural look for her since she seems to be a no nonsense kinda gal but definitely wanted her freckles to stand out more.

After:

Lastly my mini me Keiyoko, resinsoul Xue

Before:
As you may remember Keiyoko was one of my previous projects many months ago, and this was the faceup I had done. I wasn't entirely happy with the outcome so I was very excited to see what Mindy would come up with. I sent her a few photos of myself and some inspiration photos of some more glamour, almost rockabilly looks.

After:

All three turned out amazing! I couldn't be happier...my girls have eyelashes and my boy looks much better with his more manly brows. I'll definitely be sending more out to Raesha in the future.
