Week 9: Floppy McFlopperson..Restringing/Sueding

As I stated in last weeks post I have a huge costuming project that will be utilizing most of my time for the next 2 months...sooo this weeks weekly project is going to be another simple one. Restringing and sueding. I have lots of dolls that are so floppy and still have their original strings in. Time to get to work on getting these little resin people properly strung so that they can stand and be noticed. I have enough thick string at home to  restring some of my SDs and possible a few Yo-SDs but I don't believe I have the right elastic for my MSDs so this week will probably be for the SDs. For sueding I use hot glue in the sockets to create friction so the arms, legs, etc will hold a pose better. I may or may not add wiring as well, for that I will use electrical wiring that is encased in plastic so I don't damage the elastic.

What I'll probably do is post a few photos of each doll in a particular pose and do a before after side by side comparison.

Lets meet some of the Resin people that will be participating this week:

Vincent Doyle Forrester-Bobobie Apollo

Dhorian-Resinsoul Gang

Mordarak-Resinsoul Human Mu

Those are a few for now that I believe need restringing...still have a few more to check. I am also getting in a few dolls hopefully Weds, that may need restringing so I'll add those here as well.

Week 8 New Wigs- Completed

So it was a busy week with some other projects and I didn't get much done in the way of making wigs for the dolls that I posted. However I did make 2 very tiny wigs for a few dolls that I didn't have on the previous  post that I had forgotten about. And also did a lot of research and am purchasing some new wigs for a few of my dolls, I'll repost photos when they arrive.

So first of we have Tanzi and Pyrus before:

After:
Tanzi is a Garden of dolls Nabiyette in dark tan and Pyrus is a Sleeping Elf Bracken in red. Both wigs were made from scraps of Faux Fur. Tanzi's wig was cut shorter on one side and I left a few long pieces of turquiose and black in the front. Pyrus's wig is shaved down on all sides accept for the top.

Draylan as you remember in the last post had a faux fur wig that one of my other dolls stole..I was going to purchase a new wig for him, but as I went through a few of them doll wigs that I have stashed away I found this wonderful auburn wavy wig that kinda makes him look geeky but in a cute sort of way.

For Patience as you remember is Draylans sister will be waiting on her wig...here is 2 company photos of the wigs I have narrowed it down to. Both I think will compliment very nicely with her brother's Auburn curly locks.
Fox Red

Golden Auburn(pictured)

And of course Kitblu is getting herself another wig or two as well. She says that she may want to cosplay as Leeloo from Fifth Element at some point so I'm going to get this wig for her in orange..there is a shorter style of this wig but it curls under so I'd rather get this one so I can cut it myself and possible make some dreads with it. She may also get a fun suprise wig as well..I'm going to look through and see what else I can find for her that will be different.

So that is it for this week..sorry this one wasn't as excited as the previous ones as I'm just running short on time with other projects. I know there will be another Project Runway Challenge coming up very soon so that will definitely be something I'll be participating in. So stay tuned and keep on viewing the next few weeks may not be terribly excited but I will continue to do this weekly project.

Week 8 Wigs, Wigs, Wigs

So I've decided on trying to do some simple things in the next few weeks as I have some personal costume design projects for myself. But I don't want to get out of the rhythm of accomplishing this little blog. And that means for Week 8 like the title says I'm going to be either making or searching for some wigs for some of my bald dolls are those that are in some temporary ones.

Let's see who we have that is in need of wigs:

This is Llarkin and Llayton, they are twins..both are in need of wigs, but they are also in need of clothing so I may hold off on their wigs for another week to use for a full week project by themselves. The wigs that I was going to create for these 2 were going to be something more fantasy like that won't cover up their wonderful ears..in blues, greens and purples..they are both water dragons. So I'll be adding in some seaweed kinda texture in the mix..probably with yarns.

Another brother/sister combination..Patience and Draylan. I'm debating on whether I am keeping Patience or reshelling her in a different skin tone so she may be on hold for now. Draylan got his wig stole by Jhartal shown in the next photo. I'm not certain if I want to go with another faux fur wig or attempt to find one online. I'm liking more of a strawberry blonde mix for both similar to the wig Patience has on. For Patience something very southern belle like, possible lots of curls.

Like I said above Jhartal here stole Draylan's wig when he arrived...I kinda like it on him gives him a kinda lion-esque look. If I decide to make another similar to this style this wig may go back to Draylan...we shall see.

My unnamed deer centaur is in need of a proper wig and some blushing as well as magnets for his horns...so again since this one needs a little more work I may hold him for another week closer to spring to do his blushing too. I'm not entirely certain what look I want to go with him as far as hair options. I'll probably try on a few at home to get an idea of color that I'd like for him and go from there.

Another wonderful boy of mine that needs not only a new wig, because one of my other dolls stole this one, but also needs his horns dyed, body blushing and proper clothes. Again may be for another week. My idea for him will be dreadlocks as he is a forest creature and I think it will suit his character. I'll either try and make it myself or purchase one online.

Lastly Gunn my bald man who needs some new hands as well as a wig..lol. I'm debating leaving him bald, but may go for a short afro look.

Well I think that is about it on my list as far as the dolls I currently have that are in need of wigs. I do have a few incoming dolls that will need them as well, but I'm going to wait on their arrival so I can get proper measurements of their head size and determine a color that will go good with them.

Oh wait...sigh...Keiyoko wants me to add her photo in here as well...she is a little mini me so she wants to have a variety of wigs like I have in my personal collection for myself...such demanding dolls.

She says she'd like a short sassy wig...something curly and fun, oh and a wig to match the one I have with piggy tail attachements. Well we shall see what we can do for her..lol.

Week 7 Potions Completed

The end of week 7 brings an exploding conclusion. Well not really..but the potions have been put together and are ready for my next photo story, which will be uploaded on Den of Angels..and sometime in the future here on my blogger when I find time.

So as I said in my last posts my goal for this weeks project was to create a nice little gothy bedroom scene complete with books, potions and other magic supplies that one might need to cast a spell. Unfortunetly the only thing I ran out of time completing was a magic book.

First I started with gathering up some bottles and what not that I had collected specifically to start on this project quite a while ago. Then I printed out some tiny labels that I felt any one who is casting spells may have sitting upon their shelf.

Next placing all the labels on individual bottles. As you can see in the photo below I found a few more bottles laying around to add labels to...

Now that the bottles are all labeled, the fun part of filling them with random objects that would work with what the label shows...
(Items not shown below in close ups are Rare Spider Legs- made of black pipe cleaners, Witches Secret Elixir- simple water with green food color, Eye of Newt- added this one at the last minute when I saw a small bottle of hand sanitizer. The Belladonna is actually just an empty bottle that I didn't bother to fill since the glass was colored.)

How about a closer look at the rest and an explanation of what really is in those bottles and containers....
Wool of bat-cotton balls, though I had thought about using some type of black fuzzy stuff. Howlet's Wing-obviously the first thing I thought of was tiny bird feathers. Tooth of Dragon- at first I was going to skip this and use another label, but then I remember my doggies puppy teeth I still had..lol..who thought they would come in handy some day. Baboon's Blood- Taco sauce. Hemlock Root- Just went out into the front yard and pulled up some clover roots..lol.

Dried Beetle Arsenic- what else than chilli powder..lol..hot enough to burn your insides. Tubeworm Powder-  a little garlic powder and thyme. Shrivel-Figg- Golden Raisins. And last but not least Armadillo Bile- Italian herbed dressing.

All the items set up in the bedroom scene. We have a bed that I created from a shoe box, padding, a panne velvet pillow and brocade bed spread. The top right photo in the collage is a photo of the table top and shelf, all the bottles lined up and ready to go for some mischief. Bottom right photo a little black rat in a cage full of shredded newspaper.

And the scene is complete...Now off to do the photostory....

A little sneak peak with all the characters that will be making an appearance in the photostory :
"Potion Gone Wrong"...

For those on DOA here is a link to the photostory "Potion Gone Wrong". For others stay tuned until I am able to get them uploaded here on my blogger or other open/public site. Thank you again for stopping in and taking a look at my completed project. See you next week.

Week 7 - Props for a Potion

The next project on the table is going to for a photostory that I am also going to try and complete this week and I am in need of props sooo Project Prop making to commence.

Lets meet the girl the props are for:

Meet Coralyn she is of elf race, appx 12-13yrs old, she is into dark magic, spiders and darkness. She has a big chip on her shoulder due to the fact of being abandoned as a child. She is currently residing with one of my other characters Thistle-Rose, Coralyn is not really fond of people and general and especially adults who are all smiles and rainbows. So naturally she wants wants to redo her bedroom in black, have some creepy pets and some books or potions to do some magic that she is not suppose to be doing in Thistle's home.

Items that I'm thinking of creating for her room, bed, covered table/dresser with shelf of books/potions above it, random items on the table. Creepy critters in cages.

Inspiration photos:

I really like the looks of this, but since I'm just doing this as a temporary set up for a photostory..I won't be getting as many details as it is showing in this photo.

Can't make proper spells and what not with out an assortment of potions, herbs and the like. They won't necessarily be labeled like the photo, but just a few neat ideas.

I may go for something more simplistic kinda like this with just a bed, table and maybe a photo or poster or what not on the wall..but pretty much more in black/dark tones. This would be a little too bright, earthy for my little goth girl..lol.

And you can't do proper spells without the right accessories and tools..candles and such are definite must for the look I'm going for.

So there you have it a fun filled project and away I go. Come back on Sunday to see the completed set..I may even make her a little outfit if time permits.

Week 6 Completion

The week comes to a close, and I have succeeded in completing both of my boys outfits. There may be a few things that I would have made differently but I'm pretty happy with the outcome.

First we had Quillen my 1/6 boy: (before photos shown in previous post)

I ended up going with a more simple design in red and black. With a peasant type design for the pants, red wrap shirt with leather-like accents.

In this photo is a more detailed look at the black faux leather fabric that I used to  create the boots, arm bracers and belt.

The last detail is a matching black cloak. The end results I think are really good against his dark grey skin and red eyes. The only thing that I would change in the future is making the cloak a little bit larger so it covers him up more completely.

My second boy that was in this weeks project was Agirolf: (before photos can be seen in previous post)

I kept with the more natural earth tones that suit his character..with a pair of brown cotton peasant pants, white open front undershirt and vest with a faux leather trim and matching boots.

The vest is made in a nice medium weight green linen with the brown faux leather trim and tie belt..the photo doesn't show the nice richness that the green fabric actually has, when I have more natural light to work with I may post another photos showing the true colors.

The faux leather boots I created have a nice reptile print to them that will go good with other outfits that I may make him in the future. I'm pretty happy with how the entire outfit came out the only slight modification that I would do is to make the sleeves just a tad longer to cover his wrist joint or possible add some arm bracers.

So that is the conclusion of Week 6 stay tuned for Week 7 which I should be posting up tomorrow. Thanks for viewing and please feel free to leave any comments.

Week 6 - The boys Need Clothes

This week I'll be working on a project for 2 of my boys, since they will be in an upcoming photostory that they will need proper clothing for as their character. So lets introduce them and I'll tell you some more about what is in store for them both.

First we have Quillen:

Quillen is a BBB March boy appx 28cm in dark grey resin, red eyes and white hair, for the fantasy lovers out their you'll recognize that yes he is a drow. So of course he is need of some proper Drow clothes before he is introduced into my stories. I'm thinking blacks and reds or maybe all black with a red or purple cloak. I have some fabric picked out of my stash already and am working on a pattern for pants blouse, vest, cape and boots. Such a large project for such a little guy.

Possible something as simple as one of these:

My second boy if time allows is Agirolf:
Agirolf is a Angel of Dream Chi MSD 46cm currently with amber eyes and black hair. Eventually I may be changing his hair, and modding his ear that is hidden in this photo by his hair, it broke in a fall...I'm going to incorporate the injury somehow into his character. The plans I have for him is something in natural tones dark browns, maybe tans and green. I'm thinking in a kind of medieval fantasy style making him some pants, tunic/shirt vest and boots.

This is a photo that I am going to base his style from:

So there we have my Week 6 doll plan...and now to get busy sewing up some mock ups to make sure the patterns I have made will work well for each doll. Stay tuned for the end results.

Week 2-4 Catch up weeks - Photo Randomness

So since it kinda took me longer than expected for the first project I thought why not post a few photos that I took during the month of January as kinda a week 1-4 look back since my Project Runway kinda finished in week 5.

At the begining of the year I had decided to pull out all my dolls and do a 2012 kinda inventory of all my dolls which I posted on my Youtube feed here: Overview of my BJD dolls . And since I had them all in one place I decided to start taking photos of groups and individuals.

So start over/catch up for ResinWeekly begins.

Week 1:
As I said I had all my BJD dolls in one place and this is the outcome.....
Yes there are quite a few dolls, all of them accept 2 or 3 have names, which is quite a feat in itself..and no I'm not going to list them all, that's what that above youtube link is for *wink*. Go ahead and count if you'd like..lol..someone on youtube I believe tried to, its over 80 that is for sure. This was a lot of fun to get them all in a group setting like this, the biggest fear was one of them falling over and creating a domino effect. Below the buffet table that they are on you don't see the pile of pillows and such on each side and in the front, I wasn't taking any chances.

Week 2:
And on the topic of having soo many dolls...I've been slowly going through doll stuff that I am considering selling. Just random doll clothing, accessories and a few dolls so I had started to take a few examples to post up on Den of Angels.

Like I said some random stuff that has just been laying around, this is only a few items I have much more to go through and take photos of. Items: Top left to right: Pukifee clothing, Hujoo doll, blue tiered SD sized skirt, SD strawberry hoodie, 2 obitsu's in the 27-28cm scale, red fuzzy jacket modeled on my EID girl and green sweater dress that could probably fit a large MSD doll, this is modeled on a very slim SD doll.

Week 3:
Not really a doll project persue but...since I had purchased a Delilah Noir off of ebay I decided to do a little comparison with how well the clothing would fit on some of my BJD dolls I had. YouTube link
I have a few other clothing pieces from the Delilah Noir dolls, but this collage is just a few. Top left: sweater from Once Bitten Twice Shy modeled by Nixique (BBB Sprite), Bottom left: jeans from Once Bitten Twice Shy, hoodie from Pretty in Pink modeled by a GOD Nabiya, Center: complete outfit from Lady Onyx modeled by Thistle-Rose (RS Rong), Top right: t-shirt and skirt from Pretty in Pink modeled by Hortense (BBB Pixie head on RS body dyed yellow), and lastly Bottom right: t-shirt, panties and hat from Once Bitten Twice Shy modeled by Hederyx (RS Mai on girl body) though she is not very happy with this photo. I'll be making a separate blog page in my BJD Comparisons, though at the moment it is empty.

Week 4:
And caught up to the current week. For this last catch up  a few more random photos of some collages of individual doll photos from when I finally finished my month long photo shoot.

Mechanically Inclined:
Shahrivar once an elf had no choice but to be altered due to a horrible accident that took both of his arms. Audryme much like Shahrivar also fell prey to an accident and has a partial mechanical arm, eye and other things she was not fully aware of. R'jat and Ert'a are full robotics the attemps of Shahrivar to make a emotionally feeling robot that could pass as human. Paradox is a robot that has the appearance of a human but is more data and can only be programmed to do things she is told, she has no free will. More about these characters will appear in my other blog section Meeting the Cast. As well as some photo stories on Den of Angels (soon to be added on Blogger)

Hooved and/or Horned:
A few of my hooved and horned beauties, some of which need a little work and others that are not included in this collage as they did not have all there pieces together for photos.
Raynebo is a RS Yao with a unicorn horn purchased from Etsy. The top right is Impldolls Trista, Sam and Teno, the 2 deer centaurs came with horns but I forgot to glue in the magnets before I took the series of photos. Oxford is the sold out limited RS Ox that was produced for the Chinese New Year, the year of the Ox. Oxupent, full name Oxupent Zespinhaziel Doomflame is the RS Dan head on Mu hooved body in red resin, they were kind enough to do a full body blushing for me. Nychela is also a Resinsoul doll, Ai sculpt in white resin, her horns are not her originals they are from the RS Ming MSD doll. More about these dolls will also appear in the Meeting the Cast blog.

In the begining there were 5 :
Many, many years ago I created some fabulous sketches of some characters that I was using as fashion illustrations, since starting this hobby I have brought them to life in resin form. The bottom group photo is the original 5 characters: (left to right) Syringa-RS Rong in white, Tigerlily-RS Wu girl dyed by me, Kitiblu(aka Kitty Blue)-RS Mei on Rong body sky blue, Dianthius(Dianthi)-RS Li pink, Hedera Helix(Hederyx)-RS Mai girl green. Top left my fox girl that I sketched after the original 5 Vixenne- FF Iruhi on Rong body red. Kherian the second boy that I sketched-RS Wu in grey. Sythryl was a impulse buy he is a RS An head on a BBB boy body when I got him I knew I wanted him to be a part of the animal hybrids I was creating so I created him based on my white lion pet from World of Warcraft. Not pictured because I totally forgo to add him is Tacmota, the first boy that I had added to my characters when I first did these sketches.

*abbreviations  RS=Resinsoul FF=Featherfall BBB=Bobobie GOD=Garden of Dolls
*links on some names will take you to the Meeting the Cast section where you can find out other information about the characters.

Week One turned to Month One

Well so much for a doll project a week..lol. It took me longer than expected to complete my first project. A family situation came up, well that is my boyfriends family, his dad just passed away so I was trying to help out where I could. That and just been a little unmotivated.

Anyway back to the challenge at hand. So in my last post my week one project was a Project Runway challenge entitled "Walking in a Winterwonderland". I have finally completes Zhara's outfit and would like to share a few of the out comes. Oh and to note I drafted all the patterns by hand for everything, they are not commercial or enlarged patterns taking from anyone.

Completed outfit head to toe made by myself...er well accept the wig, that was a nice faux fur wig that I found in my wig stash that I had totally forgotten about. The colors I chose are Zhara's favorites: grey, black and pink...I think she looks quite good in them. The outfit itself consists of Blouse, Vest, Skirt, Arm Warmers and Leggings. The accessories to complete the ensemble Belt, Boots, and Ear Muffs.  And on to the details of the challenge.

One part of the challenge was to use 3 different textures of fabrics. In this photo you can see that I did in fact meet the requirements. I used a nice pink minky faux fur, gunmetal textured satin, dark grey knit and a chevron in scale plaid with all three colors combined.

And now a closer look at the Accessories that I made for this challenge:
Starting from the top, a set of Earmuffs made from the same fabric as her skirt. I originally was going to make a hat with the fabric instead, but as you can see she currently is wearing some huge ears. I thought at first well I could put some holes in the hat for her ears..then I was like duh why not earmuffs! The band has craft wire on either side of the band and I cut out stiff felt circles and wrapped the fabric around it while stuffing a little poly filling inside to make it rounded. I think they came out wonderfully.

Next down is the belt. A very easily made item, I took a strip of scraps from my vinyl bin sewed it into a belt and added a lovely intricate silver clasp (clasp was purchased not made by me). This is the same belt shown in the first photo around the vest. In this close up you can also see the nice texture of the satin that I used, it kinda continues the texture look from the plaid. Like a stipling striped effect.

And finally an outfit can't be complete without proper footwear. These were fun to make and my wonderful boyfriend cut the soles out for me while I was finishing the upper part. From the same scraps of vinyl matching the belt the boots were created taking some of the faux fur from the vest as accents. And as you notice her boots are open toed, well of course I couldn't hide those gorgeous clawed feet. I've seen the open toed style boots around in different trends so I naturally thought these would be perfect for her. They have a snap closure in the back, which eventually for future boot projects I'll find some tiny zippers to try out.

And here she is without the vest, to show off the details of the blouse. The blouse features a slouched collar, front horizontal pin tucks that also carry over into the tops of the sleeves.

And that is all folks for this weeks (er month's) challenge. I hope you like the end result and please feel free to leave any comments below.  Now on to the next!

Note: I'll try to go back to the previous post and add in those sketches that inspired me to create this outfit.
