Downsizing

Ok so not sewing, faceup, or modding project but it is an undertaking. First thing first I placed an order for a very special doll its somewhat of a secret for the moment, it'll be part of my upcoming WIP in a few weeks. Anyway I decided since I went on the deep end I'd go through all my dolls and decided if there was anyone that just didn't fit in and who wanted to go on a journey. So after much thought 6 of my dolls have made it on the list.

Bobobie Elliot, Resinsoul Long, Resinsoul Lu, Impldoll Aaron, Impldoll Teno and Dollzone Jume.

So what made me decide on these? Will I regret putting them up for adoption?

Well lets see the first BBB Elliot he is a 50cm boy doll his scuplt is a little thin, head a little big compared to his proportions and hands well they aren't the greatest. My original plan for him was maybe make him a sports kind of charcter, probably basketball or something. I was going to replace his hands with MSDs which would work and possible mod his head to broaden his nose. When I first got him he was actually supose to be in normal skin, but BBB emailed to say they were having problems with his mold and wondering if I'd like to have an instock light tan one. I figured sure because the other plan I had was to dye him brown/dark tan. Will I regret it in the end. I don't think so. He really wasn't a concrete character and I wasn't sure when I'd have time to work on him.

Resinsoul Long: lol...this is actually my 2nd Long. I had one in normal which I ended up selling and then another impulse buy got this one who is in light tan. I really love the look of him but after a second go I just don't think 70cm dolls are my thing. I find the legs are just too long on most dolls that are over 60cm for the rest of their bodies. Anyway I do keep looking at him and thing grrr your so cute, but I again not a developed character, maybe some day long (lol) down the road I may rethink or at the most get a head and put it on a different body maybe a Mirodoll.

Resinoul Lu: I purchased this girl second hand I really adore her just like the Lan sculpt but just can't get over her head being so much smaller than the rest of my dolls. I do have a dark tan Lu head on a Pixiu body, its not exactly to my liking, but I just can't see at the moment having 2 Lu's around. Again this is a sculpt that will always be available and isn't a limited so if I really wanted to repurchase her at a later time its possible. I really didn't have a set plan for her at the time I bought her since I rearranged some of my characters and ended up getting a Doll Chateau doll that I decided to use for the character she was going to be.

Impldoll Aaron: Well this was definitely an impulse buy I thought he looked quite handsome and thought maybe he would be a good boyfriend for my Xue girl Keiyoko, but when he arrived I wasn't that impressed with the body or face sculpt, in this case sometimes photos look better then the doll in person.

Impldoll Teno: This little guy is extremely adorable, but I'm a little put off by the way the sculpt itself is made, his fantasy legs are much shorter than what I expected. He has a nice tan color, which I really love...I think maybe in the future I might get another one of their dolls in this color. Again same as the ones above he didn't have a set character before I purchased him so I don't think I'll be too heartbroken to see him gone.

Dollzone Jume: Another impulse buy which I seem to do a lot of..lol..I thought her little fangs were kinda cute and I liked the tattoo on the face that the previous owner had put on her, I believe she came with quite a few pieces of clothin and what not as well. Anyway I had put her up once before but then took her down because I put a different wig on her and a character materialized in my head, but I guess it didn't really stick that well as she made it to the downsizing list.

So lesson learned here is no more impulse buying..lol..unless of course its a doll that is on my list. Sorry its not an overly exciting week, just trying to play catch up so I can get back on track. I promise more fun stuff to come in the next few weeks.

Week 24 Infinity Dress

Been a few weeks, I have been busy with some other non BJD projects and traveling to an anime con, but I'm back!
So I have wanted to do this blog for a while on the wonderfully fun gazillion ways to tie an Infinity dress, I found a tutorial on Den of Angels a while back and just got around to trying it out myself. After finding some photos online of various ways to wrap the straps around  I went ahead and did a brief photo shoot. Sorry for  some of the poor quality of the photos, was having some lighting issues.

Anyway on with the blog....

Above is the photo I came accross online of a beautiful coral colored long version of the Infinity Dress. As you can see there are numerous ways to twist and wrap the straps to obtain a different look each time. There are many more than this, but this was the basic one I was looking at, but I also just started experimenting.

So here is the dress I created to fit my Doll Chateau Alberta body, I had to make an adjustment to make the back longer than the front so that it hung over her centaur body, you'll be able to see the high/low hemline in the next few photos. Its best to use knit/stretchy fabrics, but I've seen some people use woven fabrics as well.

The above and the rest of the photos are being modeled by my Resinsoul Lu..you can see from the photo to the left that the back of the hemline is longer than the front as I mentioned.

Left the straps are drawn up accross the breast and shoulders and then twisted around the waist several times, giving the appearance of a sleeveless dress. The right is a asymmetrical wrap design.

A halter-like style with lots of twisting with the straps and another asymmetrical style wrapped around with a huge bow in the back.

2 more halter styles...the one on the right especially I was trying to fold and wrap the straps so that you didn't see the raw edge of the fabric.

And one last photo I folded the straps to make it look like a collar of sorts for a nice sleeveless dress look.

I unfortunetly didn't think to take photos of the back..oops. But really there are just endless possibilities with and infinity dress I can't wait to make more. There are so many different things you could do with this style. You could make the straps a different color, use fun prints with solids and the list goes on. The edges of the straps can be hemmed under, serged or add some decorative ribbon to cover the raw edges or you can just leave as is.

I believe I will be adding this to my new designs that will soon be available in my Etsy shop MKC Couture . Until then I already have 2 more cut out and ready to go. Thanks for stopping in a viewing.
